About Stella

Hey! Stella here...

I’ve been a full-time music professional (singer, pianist, music producer) for nearly 20 years, releasing two vocal jazz albums and several singles along the way. My 2024 album, “Look for the Silver Lining”, was Grammy-longlisted in 2025 for Best Vocal Jazz Album – who knew that a girl from Ireland could achieve that?! 😊

I began studying piano accordion at age five (it was almost bigger than me!!!). Later, I switched to piano and, in my early teens, studied classical and musical theatre singing, taking Royal Irish Academy of Music syllabus exams. I also completed a Music Diploma from Durham University, England and, in 2017, earned a Master’s Degree in Music (Jazz Performance) from Dublin’s Conservatory of Music.

Though my undergraduate degree in Computer Science from University College Dublin initially seemed unrelated to my music career, it proved invaluable when I took up music production in 2020. While I’d dabbled before, the pandemic gave me the time to refine my skills, leading me to study Music Production online (Logic Pro) with Berklee College, Boston, and Music Composition & Arranging (Sibelius) with Studio Orchestrations, Belfast. This opened the door to writing, arranging, and producing production/sync music for TV, film, and gaming. I had been a session singer for years, recording in-studio with producers, and now of course I can do this remotely with international clients from my home studio. Several of my original instrumental albums have been signed to Warner Chappell Production Music in Nashville and other top libraries, with already a few TV and film placements under my belt!

I’m continuing to write and produce in this space, seeing it as an important new part of my identity as a modern musician, who’s navigating the pros and cons that streaming, AI and so on, offer. Also, I enjoy it IMMENSELY and love the global collaborative nature of it.

“Look for the Silver Lining” is a collaboration with the Johnny Taylor Trio, blending jazz standards with new songs I co-wrote. The pandemic also gave me time to focus on songwriting, leading to several co-writes, two of which I decided to put onto this album. Following its release, I was invited to perform as a headline act at the 2024 International Cork Jazz Festival. I also played the major Irish jazz festivals, and was invited to perform at the US Embassy in Dublin for the Ambassador’s 2024 Independence Day celebrations.

My first album, 2014’s “Too Darn Hot”, also featured mostly jazz standards alongside a couple of contemporary songs. A special moment from that project was receiving a message from Amy Winehouse’s mother, Janis, who’d heard my version of ‘Back to Black’ on the album and loved it. She even asked me to send her a copy of the album (which I did in double-quick time!): an incredible honour as a longtime fan of Amy’s work.

As a concert performer – and someone who LOVES telling stories through the medium of song – I’ve created several shows, including “Stella Sings Ella”, a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald; “A Little (Jazz) Night Music”, exploring jazz interpretations of Stephen Sondheim’s music; and “Smoke and Sound”, a tribute to 1930s Berlin’s interwar music (the then German ambassador to Ireland invited us to perform it at a major Embassy event). The first two shows were supported by the Arts Council and toured the island of Ireland, while “Stella Sings Ella” still plays regularly, returning to Ireland’s premier classical music venue, The National Concert Hall, in August 2025.

When I’m not touring, I have two music residencies: singing monthly with the Hot House Big Band, while I lead my own quartet for a weekly Sunday jazz residency. I’ve also ventured into radio broadcasting, presenting and producing a jazz show on Dublin City FM for three years, and also work as a voiceover artist, recording radio and TV voiceovers for private and corporate clients including some 2025 national TV and radio campaigns for the RTE Concert Orchestra.
