Stella presents "Nostalgia" on Dublin City FM on Sundays 1-3pm

Dubliner Stella Bass studied music from a young age, starting piano accordion lessons at the tender age of five (and a half!), followed later by singing and piano, both through the RIAM. After school she received a degree in Computer Science from University College Dublin and in 2017 did a Master's Degree in Music in Dublin's Conservatory of Music.

In tandem with her musical studies, many years of singing in musicals, bands and cabarets helped Stella finely-tune her craft and her versatile repertoire crosses over jazz, classical and musical theatre, though she is still most at home singing her beloved jazz standards, inspired by her big influences, Ella Fitzgerald and Barbra Streisand.

In 2014, Stella released her first album “Too Darn Hot" - featuring songs from Cole Porter and Jerome Kern as well as newly-arranged songs by Amy Winehouse and Robert Palmer – to critical acclaim; indeed, upon hearing Stella's album cover of her daughter's song Back to Black, Amy Winehouse’s mother got in touch with Stella directly to say how much she loved the version, and indeed that Stella's album was being played non-stop in her house! The album gets regular radio airplay on the national airwaves in Ireland – it was Album of the Week on RTE Lyric FM, on its release - and has since made waves on jazz stations in the UK, the USA, Germany and Switzerland. Indeed, the album has been running on Aer Lingus' (Ireland’s national airline) longhaul in-flight entertainment schedule since 2016.

Since 2015, she has produced and performed her own twice-yearly lunchtime concerts in Dublin's stunning National Concert Hall with a variety of programmes reflecting both the material she loves and the versatility of her voice, and these shows have all toured nationally. From her jazz-inspired take on the music of Broadway's Stephen Sondheim, to the music of Ella Fitzgerald; from a tribute to 1930s Berlin's musically-stunning cabaret scene (which she was invited to perform in the German Ambassador's Residence) to a joyous celebration of Broadway's best-loved songs, Stella's concerts are usually a sell-out and she will be returning in October 2020 with her Ella Fitzgerald concert, a show which was invited to the 2017 Cork Jazz Festival and Bray Jazz Festival, and to Hong Kong to perform for the Ireland Funds.

No stranger to t
he art of the Big Band, Stella sings with the Hot House Big Band, has recorded with the Dublin City Jazz Orchestra, and was the resident jazz singer for almost a decade in Dublin's iconic Cafe en Seine with her own band.

S
he has also branched out into broadcasting, presenting and producing the long-standing "Nostalgia" every Sunday afternoon on Dublin City FM, and presenting on Christmas FM in 2018 and 2019 and has recorded voiceovers for several private and corporate clients. As a performer, she has made many TV/radio appearances on Irish TV & radio over the years, but is also very much enjoying being on the other side of the microphone!

As well as theatre concerts and shows, Stella regularly performs at private and corporate events and weddings in Ireland and overseas, including for the Ireland Funds in Hong Kong, St Patrick's Day Ball in Oman, The RBS Six Nations, The Ryder Cup @ the K Club and the Heineken Cup. She is the preferred supplier of jazz music for two of Ireland's top luxury 5* venues; The Merrion Hotel and No 25 Fitzwilliam Place.
